Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
